Texans both, and unrepentant about it.

James is a South Texas boy, a region defined by generous doses of sunshine. According to him, a South Texan will stand in the shade of a telephone pole, as that may be the only shade around. Director of the Victoria Public Library for yea these many years, he is widely respected as a serious advocate for libraries and a serious cutup who knows how to have fun while doing good work. Wife Mitzi, who works at Victoria College and is a better writer than either of us, will be staying behind for this one.

Steve lives in North Texas, and though born there cannot really claim to be from there, having lived in Houston, New Orleans (temporary exile), Austin, Houston again, Alvin (home of Nolan Ryan) and now North Richland Hills where he is director of the North Richland Hills Public Library. In terms of major cities, North Richland Hills is closest to Fort Worth, and is thus just a little east of where the west begins. Small-boat sailor, homebrewer, fan of slow food. Wife Vicki is an RN who works from home doing medical case management, case reviews and mediation. She plans to join us about 10 days down the trail and walk a few miles in the moors of North Yorkshire. Son Jeff lives at home and is attending a local college.

We plan to start walking from St. Bee's on Tuesday September 5, and finish in Robin Hood's Bay around midday of the 19th, with a couple of short days planned along the route to take in the scenery.
